Getting Hacked is the Worst!

Well… it finally happened to me too… I got sucked in by the power and instant feedback of social media and subsequently neglected my blog and Munfy Website. My social media accounts became my personal and business pages. All of my advertising and posts (photos and content) were no longer updated here, but found a new home with online social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. I sincerely regret that decision! Unlike my blog, which contains hundreds of safety measures and tons of backups, my Facebook and Instagram (yours included) DO NOT! They are not protected! I had to learn this the hard way!

I GOT HACKED!

ALL OF MY SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS GOT HACKED AND “ALL” AT ONCE!

I lost THOUSANDS of followers… Hundreds of posts and YEARS worth of content. I became a member of Facebook in 2005-2006! It was still called “The Facebook!” Put it this way, I still had a MySpace account. In 2012, I created my first and only Instagram account for Munfy Photography. No personal account, just Munfy. Fast forward eight years later (2021), my personal Facebook account was hacked and frozen. Next my Munfy business Facebook account was put on hold and/or frozen, including my business page for Instagram.

I made the BIG mistake of using my Facebook to log into my Instagram account. If one account failed, the other would follow suit. Immediately I contacted Facebook through their technical support but a computer generated response informed me my account was under review and would either be deleted or relaunched in 30 days. I spent the next 30 days trying everything in my power to restore my Facebook page, but no one would contact me! I actually got an 60 day extension (which I still don’t understand how that happened) but after that passed, my pages were taken down indefinitely. I lost my personal and business accounts on Facebook, but only lost my business account on Instagram. Somehow my personal Instagram account is still active.

After the 90 days, ALL of my personal posts, memories, images, family events, and so much more were taken down – gone! My business social media accounts and contacts including all posts and content gone too! Everything!

Starting over… I know that sounded very dramatic (lol), but it was very stressful because I not only lost years of history, I lost HOURS and HOURS of time trying to contact anyone at Facebook to help. But NO ONE ever contacted me. It was like no one, no person, worked at the media giant. I am assuming because getting hacked happens so often its not worth the FREE service they provide us all.

“Facebook and Instagram are free services. Free advertising to the masses”.

I admit, I do love the ease of using social media. It has helped grow my business and I enjoy keeping up with personal friends around the globe. But I can also see the many problems it can potentially cause to our personal lives. (Thats a story for another day)

In closing, please take my advice and use the 2-step authenticator to log into all of your social media accounts and do not create a new account for any service using Facebook as your log in. If your Facebook account gets hacked, they all will fail.

I started a new personal Facebook page and a new business account for Instagram.

My new Instagram account is: @munfyphoto
